Free School Meals

Did you know registering your child for Free School Meals means that both you and your school benefit?

Even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and receives a free meal under the Universal Free School Meals Scheme it is important that you register for Income Based Free School Meals as this is the only way to receive the other benefits and for the school to receive the Pupil Premium payment.

If you are registered for Free School Meals your child will be able to go on all school visits for free (including the Robinwood residential in Year 4).

How to Apply

To qualify for Free School Meals you need to be unemployed or receiving a qualifying benefit (its not just for unemployment benefit)

Applying is really quick and easy – use the link below to take you to the Northumberland County Council website and click the ‘Apply for Free School Meals’ link:

If you cannot access the website you can also call the Free School Meals team on 01670 623592 or by completing a paper application form which is available from any school or  from the FSM Office, Northumberland County Council, County Hall, Morpeth NE61 2EF

If you qualify your child will receive a free, healthy meal at lunchtime (saving you more than £350 a year), plus extra benefits for yourself and the school and also gets £900 extra.

If you don’t want your child to have the school meals they can continue having a packed lunch but please still register to enable the school to receive the extra funding.
