Welcome to Class 4!
We have a busy and exciting term ahead in Class 4. This term our topics are ‘Anglo Saxons’ where we will be discovering more about the end of roman rule in Britain and Anglo Saxon life.
As part of our PE we are starting our swimming lessons at Wentworth Leisure Centre every Tuesday morning so, please remember your swimming kit and goggles. They will also have PE on Fridays with Mrs White.
As a class we will be reading ‘The Firework Makers Daughter’ and looking at the issues and dilemmas raised in this story. We are also writing a quest story for our Trawl project.
In Maths our class will be working on place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and measure. We are using a mastery approach to maths teaching, so there will be lots of opportunities to use practical resources and to problem solve.
In Science this term our topics are: Living things and states of matter. We will be carrying out lots of practical experiments with our lovely new science resources.
Reading continues to be hugely important and success in this skill links to success in all other curriculum areas. All children will take part in three Guided Reading sessions a week. We listen to your child read at least once a week with their own reading book or a text selected on Bug Club. We ask each pupil to continue to read three times a week and record this in their reading record. There is a strong focus on comprehension in year 4 where the children will learn to read at a deeper level, describing writers craft and reading between the lines.
Homework folders are handed out on a Wednesday to be returned by the following Tuesday. Children are encouraged to complete their weekly homework as it is linked the work they have been doing in class. If you find that your child needs support then this is an excellent chance to work together or Year 4 staff can provide extra support for your child if you let us know early in the week.
We are running a homework club every Tuesday lunchtime for children to ask about anything they are unsure of or finish homework. This includes access to computers to use Abacus, Bug Club and Time Table Rock Stars, our new and exciting times table platform. Children can feel free to opt into these sessions.
Our weekly Spelling Test is on a Tuesday. The children will get a new spelling set of for each half term.
We have Year 4 playground buddies working hard to keep our school happy.
Please don’t hesitate to come and see us if you have any questions.
Thank you for your support.
