Welcome to Class 1

Our topic this term is “Seasides” The children will look at the life of Grace Darling and her famous rescue.

In literacy we are reading Seaside Stories (see overview)

In science we will be looking at ‘How Plants Grow’.

Children enjoy playing this game in their phonics lessons reading real and not real words with Bob and Obb  choose Phase 3, 4 or 5.

Weekly Routines

Class 1 have P.E. on Tuesday with Mrs Moore and Wednesday with the PE specialist- We will send the PE kit home for washing at the end of each half-term.

Library book are changed every Friday. Please return your child’s book to ensure that they can choose a new one.

Your child will be heard reading individually once a week and during guided reading sessions once a week, these are small groups of children reading the same book to an adult. Please read the book that is sent home and make a small comment in the reading record book, or add a date and a signature.

Homework consists of weekly spellings linked to Read, write, inc and numeracy task that will be in their yellow homework book. Please return the homework by the following Thursday so it can be marked and new homework prepared and given out on Fridays. Spellings will be given out on a Friday  and the test will be on the following Friday. Please help support your child to learn their spellings and complete the other home based tasks. As always your co-operation is appreciated and does make a difference to your childs progress.

Star of the week

A child from the class will be chosen to be our ‘star of the week’ they will bring a certificate home to keep and will sit on a special cushion all day.

Well done to everyone who have already been stars.

Marble jar.

The children are given marbles throughout the day and put in a jar. Marbles are given out for all kinds of ‘positive’ behaviour including good manners, following routines, hands up, being kind, taking turns, neat handwriting, completing work, tidying up, etc.
